Banana Cream Pie

Banana Cream Pie is easy, creamy vanilla cream covering banana slices, all in a crunchy crust and topped with whipped cream. This light dream cake will be a nice sweet surprise to whoever.

Ingredients:
  • 9 Inch Baked pastry shell can be store-bought or homemade
  • Filling
  • 3/4 cup White sugar
  • 1/3 cup All-purpose flour or 3 Tbsp of cornstarch
  • 1/4 tsp. Salt
  • 2 cup Milk
  • 3 Large Egg yolks, beaten
  • 2 tbsp. Butter
  • 1 1/4 tsp. Vanilla extract
  • 4 Large Bananas, sliced
  • Topping
  • 1/3 cup Whipped cream
  • 1 Banana, sliced

Preheat oven to 350°F/175°C.

In a saucepan, combine the sugar, flour, and salt. Add milk in gradually while stirring gently. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture is a little bit steamy. Help yourself with a rubber spatula if necessary to reach the tight corner spots. Keep stirring and cook for about 2 more minutes, and then remove from the burner.

Stir a small quantity of the hot mixture into the beaten egg yolks, and immediately add egg yolk mixture to the rest of the hot mixture. Cook for 2 more minutes; remember to keep stirring.

Remove the mixture from the stove and add butter and vanilla. Stir until the pudding has a smooth consistency.

Add sliced bananas into the baked pastry shell. Top with the pudding mixture you just made.

Bake at 350 °F/175 °C for 15 to 20 minutes, depending on your oven. Chill for 3 hours once it is cooked.

Once you are ready to serve, spread whipped cream over chilled pie. Decorate with more banana slices.

Tip: Why did my banana cream pie not set? Undercooked pudding is the #1 reason the pie gets soupy. One trick to check the doneness, at step 3, is to coat the back of the spoon with pudding and run your finger right through the middle. If the trail stays separate without running back into the middle, it’s done.
